The Tax Nag®  - What information do you need to see your accountant?

Follow the steps on this page, and you should be well-prepared for your tax appointment.

1. Your W-2's...ALL OF THEM!
2. Information (Social Security Numbers and Dates of Birth) for new dependents.
2. Your 1099's from banks and investment firms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV and 1099-B).
3. Your tax returns from the prior year (if you are a new client).
4. Your 1099 from Unemployment benefits (if any).

Your 1099-R for any retirement income or early distributions from plans (if you rolled the distributions over, let us know, and bring evidence of this, if possible).
6. Your 1099-SSA for Social Security Benefits received (if any).

All W-2G's from gaming income (and be prepared to discuss any corresponding losses and bring evidence of said losses).
8. Copies of all Schedules K-1 from Partnerships, S Corporations, Estates and Trusts.
9. Your 1099's from any miscellaneous income (like prizes, awards, or cancellation of debt).

11. Do you own property that you rent to others?  CLICK HERE for more stuff to bring!
12. Student loan interest paid.
13. For teachers only - a list of supplies purchased with your own funds (the first $250 worth is enough).
14. IRA or Roth contributions made or that you plan to make by April 15.
15. Alimony paid or received (if applicable).
16. College tuition paid for yourself or anyone else you claim an exemption for.
17. Unreimbursed medical expenses (if they are significant).
18. Forms 1098 from your mortgagees, including real estate taxes paid from escrow.
19. HUD-1 (settlement statement) from the purchase of a home or a refinancing.
20. Copies of all other property tax bills.
21. A list of contributions paid, including receipts for all donations above $250.
22. Receipts for all noncash contributions.
23. Do you have substantial employment expenses that are either unreimbursed or not fully reimbursed?  CLICK HERE for more stuff to bring!
 
24. The amount you paid last year's tax preparer (if a new client).
25. Invoices for expenditures subject to the Energy credits, such as new windows, doors, furnace, hot water heater or insulation.
 
26. A list of estimated (quarterly) income tax payments made (Federal or State).
27. The tax ID number, name and address of your Child Care provider (if applicable), and the total paid to said provider.
