Ken is a 1985 graduate of the University of
Connecticut (in the days when it was easy to get basketball
tickets, for obvious reasons) with an Honors Scholar designation
in Accounting. He began his professional career in the Hartford
office of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG Peat Marwick),
followed by three years in the tax department at Coopers &
Lybrand in Hartford (now Price Waterhouse Coopers). Late in
1989, Ken took a 26 month hiatus from public accounting, as
Financial Manager for a Hartford real estate management company,
Prospect Enterprises.
On February 10, 1992, Ken opened his own
practice in 560 square feet at the corner of Main and Water
Streets in Downtown Torrington. In 1994 he began discussions
with Bertrand J. Theroux about the possibility of operating
their two firms from a single location. These discussions led to
Kens move to the offices of Bertrand J. Theroux and Dominic
N. Amicone at 218 North Elm Street in September, 1994. In late
1998, Ken and Bert merged their practices under the THEROUX
& NOWELL, LLC banner and moved to their present location at
53 Peck Road.
Kens areas of expertise cover a wide range of
services, including accounting and financial statement
preparation, tax planning and
return preparation, IRS communication (including Offers in
Compromise), financial planning and business start-up services.
His clients come from many industries, including medical
practitioners, attorneys, contractors, nonprofit organizations,
retailers, service businesses and real estate professionals
(brokers, agents and investors).
Ken lives in Torrington with the true joys of
his life, his wife Karen and their son, Brian. He is a member of
the Torrington Rotary Club (and served as Secretary from
1996-98), and serves on the Board of Directors of the United
Way (where he now serves as Treasurer). He is also the Treasurer of Operation Yuli (ask him about
it sometime) and the Torrington Area Council of Churches. Ken
and Karen have coached for Torrington Youth Soccer and
volunteered for the annual United Way campaigns in the area. Ken
is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public
Accountants.
